Awareness on Auditory Listening Difficulties in Classroom Environment among Children having Hearing Impairment

Advancement in technology and early intervention has resulted in an increase in the number of children having hearing impairment being fitted with various hearing devices and being mainstreamed. In the mainstreamed classroom listening and understanding are an integral part for effective teaching and learning, poor classroom acoustics due to the increased noise, reverberation, signal to noise ratio and other factors results in increasing the cognitive load, reducing attention, concentration, memory and academic performance. Thus, there is a need to understand the challenges faced by the children in the classroom environment and adopting appropriate strategies for facilitating effecting teaching learning environment.
