NISH with the support of Directorate of Social Justice organized online seminar on “Leprosy: Facts everyone should know” on 15th December 2018, Saturday from 10.30 am to 12.50 pm. The session was handled by Dr. J. Padmalatha, State Leprosy Officer & Deputy Director, Directorate of Health Services, Thiruvananthapuram.
Leprosy is a condition affecting peripheral nervous system and skin. It results in neuropathy (dysfunction of peripheral nerves causing numbness or weakness) and leads to disabilities or deformities. The community still perceives leprosy with a lot of misconceptions. Though we had declared that leprosy is completely eradicated, many new cases are being identified, which is a matter of concern. Hence, early identification and providing required treatment is more than essential in our community.
This seminar was webcasted live & online at DCPUs of all Districts.
