Kudumbashree, the State Poverty Eradication Mission, initiates the BUDS programme, which is a mainstream programme for persons with disabilities. Buds, the first schools for people with various mental and intellectual challenges who were marginalized and stigmatized in society, opened their doors in 2004. Since then, many activities for the upliftment of the persons with disabilities have been carried out under the leadership of Kudumbashree. Kudumbashree Mission formed special NHGs comprising vulnerable sections like senior citizens (elderly), differently-abled and transgender as members through a process of local mobilization for poverty eradication. Through the special NHGs, Kudumbashree will help them with their sustainable livelihood, rehabilitation, integration into society and participation in mainstream developmental processes. Capacity training and financial assistance would also be provided to these special NHGs.
